Echoes of a Baoli reimagines one of India’s most enduring architectural typologies as a suspended spatial experience. Rather than recreating a stepwell in its physical form, the installation evokes its memory through a composition of floating planes, inviting visitors to experience depth, descent, and stillness through space, light, and absence. For centuries, baolis were more than water reservoirs. They were places of gathering, contemplation, ritual, and refuge, where architecture mediated the relationship between people, water, climate, and time. Their layered geometry transformed the act of descending into a gradual transition, leading from the intensity of the world above to the calm and silence below. This installation translates that journey into a contemporary architectural language. As visitors move through the suspended layers, they encounter shifting perspectives, framed voids, and an ever-changing perception of depth. In doing so, Echoes of a Baoli becomes not a reconstruction of the past, but a reflection on its enduring spatial intelligence, reinterpreting a timeless architectural legacy through the lens of modern design.
